To become a member of the Medina County First Responder Support Team, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Emotional Resilience |
Members must be comfortable with their own emotional reactions to critical incidents.
Experience |
Members be current or past (retired) members of the first responder community or mental health field.
Effective Stress Management |
Members must demonstrate, by their own example, that they cope effectively with stress.
Altruistic Support |
Members must show an altruistic desire to provide support to their colleagues.
Mental Health Stability |
Members must not have chronic mental health or substance abuse problems that could inhibit their ability to function on the team.
Relevant Knowledge and Competence |
Members must be highly educated regarding the kinds of problems first responders are likely to experience and be competent to deal with them.
Team Collaboration |
Members must be able to work under clinical directions and as part of a disciplined professional group.
Required Training |
All members are required to be trained in both Group Crisis Intervention and Assisting Individuals in Crisis. These courses are developed through the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.
